MOZA R9 V2 Wheelbase
I chose the R9 over the R5 Wheelbase, and I’m really glad I did. As many did, I debated for a while whether to get the R5 bundle, or the R9 with the ESX wheel. I ended up deciding to spend a few extra dollars to upgrade the wheelbase. I am very glad I did, seeing that most of the time I run it at about 90%. I haven’t gotten to try the R5, but I have a good feeling I would have been wanting more. Keep in mind I am not a seasoned sim professional, and my last wheel was a MOMO logitech from when I was a kid. So I’m sure a pro would benefit from something above the 9nm this offers, but I don’t think I will be at that point for a good long while. The 9nm is right at the point where I feel like it could hurt me. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing…..but it feels like a good thing.
I really do like the combination of the ESX wheel with the R9 base. This keeps the budget a bit lower, but leaves plenty of room to upgrade wheels. I’m curious to hear what people think about the R9 when they upgrade to a 13 or 14” wheel, as I’m sure that’s the case where a more powerful wheelbase comes in handy. I may update this review if I end up getting a different wheel.
I’m going to review the ESX wheel in another post, but the one perk of the R5 bundle is that the ES wheel it comes with has a leather (or leather like) grip, rather than the hard rubber this comes with. If you’re planning on getting the R9 with the ES wheel, keep in mind you’re getting the hard rubber wheel and if you want to upgrade wheels because of it.
